Back when I first started with Dallas bathtub services in 1991 I had absolutely no clue what bathtub refinishing was and what it took to achieve it. I was a senior in high school and an elderly Gentleman I met by pure happenstance offered to teach me the trade for $5000.00. I guess in hindsight it worked out that we were both good people because at 18 years old I paid him $3000.00 in cash upfront with nothing more than a handshake and he trained me on the bathtubs at the old Faulkner properties on I-30 by Lake Ray Hubbard. It was suppose to be a 4 week class but I continued to sub contract for him my senior year of High school and I will be very honest. I learned from that man every single ... I wont say day... but I can honestly say week. Every single week there was at least one major thing I learned.
I remember an auto paint guy asking him for work and not understanding when he would not use him. "It's not bathtub painting" and once the consumer and professional alike understands this and more importantly embraces this then we can get rid of the Epoxy D.I.Y. kits that should be terminated for misleading people for years!

A loaded question is ... Can a bathtub be painted? My response is just because something can be done, does that mean it should be done? I mean It's like saying Can I drive my truck into the river? Sure you can! However....... we know the outcome. It's the same thing with painting a bathtub. Sure it can be done but I swear to you it is going to peel!
The fact it looked good for a picture 15 minutes after it was completed means nothing. I have correctly restored dozens of bathtubs that were painted with Kilz (the stain blocking paint for walls) I personally watched a maintenance guy paint a fiberglass bathtub with kilz years ago and It looked actually pretty damn good! Until exactly 2 days later (it was a Wednesday he did that and Friday night I stayed late to correctly refinish the tub) when the resident moved in and said paint was peeling off the bathtub!
